Oklahoman Will Rogers, the premiere 1930s American radio political commentator, once wrote he was not sure he'd want to belong to any organization whose standards would permit a man like him to be a member. We hope the lack of exclusivity on this site does not make you think less of Journalism Mashup. The point of this site is to be inclusive—as long as one observes journalistic and academic standards. The great misconception is that WIKIs are free-for-all shouting matches with no news values. WIKI is a moderated publishing process that permits everyone to submit their ideas, and everyone else a chance to edit them. An editor is informed each time there is a change and checks the submission for accuracy, fairness and balance.

Few of us really know how this works in practice. In order to know if this idea works for news gathering, we journalists must test it. This site provides that opportunity

Who can join?

Anyone interested in teaching or studying convergence journalism or teaching or studying internationally is invited to join. Anyone interested in criticizing the move to convergence journalism and distance education is invited to join. Any working journalist is invited to join. You do not have to teach or report across a border or edit or advise a website, you just have to be interested. We need editors. We need readers who just want to add to the conversation. Journalism Mashup needs you if we are to learn.
